This website is hosted by Netlify, Inc. (USA). When you visit the site, the host automatically processes technically necessary data (e.g. IP address, date and time, page visited, browser) in order to deliver the website securely and reliably. Data may be transferred to the USA in the process. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR; the transfer is based on Netlify’s data protection terms (in particular EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework). Fonts and images are served from this server; Google Fonts or similar services are not used.
On your first visit, a banner asks whether you consent to the use of Google Analytics. Without your consent, no cookies are set and no analytics services are loaded.
Your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage (“localStorage”, entry ms-consent, 12 months) so the banner does not appear on every page. It is also saved if you close the hint about the English version (ms-lang-hint). This storage is strictly necessary for the functions you request (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG) and never leaves your browser.
You can withdraw or give your consent at any time with effect for the future via the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page.
Only if you consent, I use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”). It shows me, in aggregated form, which pages are visited how often, where visitors come from (e.g. search engines, LinkedIn) and which devices and browsers are used.
Data processed includes pages visited, time on page, referrer, approximate location (country/city), device and browser information and a random online identifier. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. Google signals and advertising features are disabled. Cookies are set for this purpose (_ga, _ga_M7SP8SP8JC, lifetime up to 14 months). The collected data is deleted after 14 months.
Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; EU Standard Contractual Clauses apply in addition. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR, § 25 (1) TDDDG). If you withdraw your consent, Google Analytics is no longer loaded and the cookies mentioned are deleted. More information: Google’s privacy policy.
I use Google Search Console to see how my website appears in Google Search. This does not collect any data from visitors to this website and sets no cookies; Google only provides me with aggregated search statistics.
Only when you actively open it are the book and song covers loaded directly from the servers of Suhrkamp Verlag (via Cloudinary) and Spotify. These providers technically receive your IP address and browser data. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR (your consent by opening the drawer).
If you write to me at info@maik-skowronek.de, I process your details solely to handle your enquiry (Art. 6 (1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them as soon as they are no longer needed. Emails to my work address at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut and to the #TeamPender addresses are subject to the privacy notices of the respective organisation.
Links to other websites (e.g. LinkedIn, Universität Hamburg, Suhrkamp, Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube Music or former employers) are only loaded when you click them. From then on, the respective provider’s privacy policy applies.
Using the globe icon next to DE/EN you can read the site in another language. Only after you choose one are you redirected to Google Translate (Google Ireland Limited), which translates the page for you. From then on, Google’s privacy policy applies.
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR) and the right to withdraw consent at any time (Art. 7 (3) GDPR). You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, e.g. the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
